This session introduces participants to the Tech Girls Movement and the successful national campaign Tech Girls Are Superheroes which launched in 2014. The Tech Girls Movement is a non-profit organisation committed to creating a workforce capable of building the technology of the future. We support the development of a more diverse STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) workforce, ultimately resulting in better technology for society through presenting accessible positive female role models and the opportunities afforded by technology careers in a refreshing way, through storytelling, entrepreneurship and hands-on programs to school girls. In 2016, we have had nearly 500 girls building apps to solve local problems in the Search for the Next Tech Girl Superhero competition. 40000 free copies of the illustrative childrens books Tech Girls Are Superheroes, have also been distributed, with 20 000 of them since March 2016.
